Mazahir Nalwalla is a Professional Development and Leadership Fellow at Columbia University, pursuing an MS in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on simulation-driven design. He holds a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with Honors in CAD/CAM from Symbiosis Institute of Technology, Pune, and is certified across SolidWorks, Siemens NX, and applied CFD. At JSW Steel in Dolvi, he designed and validated large-scale structural systems, including a 376-component ladle turret lifting mechanism and a 23-tonne basic oxygen furnace hood replacement.
As a Design Engineering Intern at Path Robotics in Columbus, Ohio, he prepared customer part geometry for autonomous robotic welding, sequenced and planned welds for production, and worked on standardizing team CAD templates and automating parts of the seam assignment workflow. His graduate research at Columbia builds a digital twin of soft tissue expansion, combining photogrammetry-derived patient geometry, an automated Python meshing pipeline, and Monte Carlo studies in ABAQUS. He is drawn to problems where the simulation has to answer to something physical, and spends his free time on film, food, and whatever is on the bench.
